Ask a controller why the close takes ten days and you'll hear a list of things that can only happen after the period ends. Most of them could have happened earlier.

Twenty days to ten is process work. Anyone can do it with a good calendar. Ten to five is different: it usually comes down to one journal entry nobody has questioned in years.

One team found theirs. A journal entry that ate 120 hours a month got automated down to five minutes, with every review step still in place.

This session shows you how to find yours. Hugh O'Neill, Principal Accountant in Residence (FloQast) and Jaysen Dyal,  Sr. Product Marketing Manager (FloQast), walk through a real month-end pile and pull out an entry just like it: where the data comes from, who reviews it, and what has to stay untouched for your auditors.

You'll leave ready to sort your own close, with a first candidate to move.

In this session, you'll learn:

  • Which close work actually needs period-end, and how much of your month-end pile is waiting out of habit
  • What it takes to move a journal entry earlier, from data source to sign-off
  • How review and audit hold up - what replaces the month-end checkpoint once work stops arriving all at once
  • Where to start - how to pick the first candidate in your own close, and what makes a good one
